"Guachinche" was minted referring to a typical and authentic inn from Tenerife. They are generally a restaurant-bar owned by real islanders offering a large range of unique food (called "tapas", known as delicious small dishes). The peculiarity and value of these places come from the food, which are the most purely tipical dishes of the island at prices that anyone can afford. Discovering these places -which are generally addressed to residents- is a fantastic experience to enjoy while staying in Tenerife on holidays.
An interesting fact to acknowledge is that these establishments have its roots in the stalls set up by farmers and ranchers in specific dates in order to sell their products (specially wine). They used to sell them directly to english buyers and afterwards to local consumers, passing through intermediaries.
The Guachinches were born in the wake of the important winemaking activity in Tenerife´s island: specially in the northen towns, such as : Tacoronte, El Sauzal, Tegueste, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, La Orotava, Los Realejos. Around them there are many popular inns and bars.
